How secure is teaching jobs in a private school?

We Answered:

The economy drives the train on whether any position is secure or not. I just read where a prominent private school in London is closing its doors after being open for 137 years. There is no fail safe determination on whether you will survive as a teacher in a private school, but certainly the track record of a school should be taken into consideration. The local economic situation, student enrollment, how well you are respected by the school and parents of students, and other factors will all have a bearing on your "security" in a private school as a teacher. Also consider that you likely don't have credentials, or a teacher certificate (licensure), otherwise you would likely be teaching in a more secure but not totally secure public school. Good luck and I hope this has helped you to make a sound decision on your future and your career.

Teaching in a public school or a private school?

We Answered:

Public often pays more with better benefits; private offers students who are generally more motivated to learn.

Jesse Said:

which is a better job,a private school teaching job or a govt. school teaching job?

We Answered:

Private pays alot more, but you have to be way well prepared for it.
Public school earns you a decent living and isn't as strict as public school.
I say going for private. But it's going to take alot of school to get into that. In the end, it's all worth it. It makes u a GREAT living and is more interactive and social than public school. You get to know your students so much better and they're so much better behaved than in public school.

The choice is yours :)

Does anyone know how to search for teaching jobs in NYC in private schools????

We Answered:

Go to the phone book, look up private schools with a sound reputation in the community. Call them up and ask if they're hiring.

I know it sounds like overly-simple advice, but it really is the most effective way. Most schools don't advertise all oftheir open positions. And, those schools that do the most advertising are often (but not always) the most desperate (which isn't a good thing if you want a job there).

Also, when you apply, send a nice letter and a copy of your resume to the PRINCIPAL after you've formally applied through human resources offices. Principals usually have more control over who is hired-- HR offices don't. Be sure principals get a paper copy of your resume in theirs hands. :)

Here's a book on finding teaching jobs that may be helpful to you-- it's "Guide to Getting a Teaching Job" http://www.iwantateachingjob.com It has interview tips, information about applying and finding jobs, 50 common teacher interview questions and answers, etc. Maybe the book can help you.

Best of luck to you on your search!!!

Private school teaching jobs?

We Answered:

In a private chool like the one you're applying at, the major benefits are:

1. Smaller class sizes

2. More involved parents

3. Better behavior (often)

The negatives of a private school are:

1. Less pay & benefits

2. Less money available to the school for you to buy supplies

Good luck getting the job!
