Have them compete two on two. They have to score on either a pick and roll or a pick and pop. Make it competitive. This will at least make them see the value of setting picks and will inspire them to listen to you when you want them to set off the ball screens as well.Maureen Said:

u can play the lay up game it like u split the group into to and they have to sit on the side like on opposite sides of the court both teams have there own basket... they pass the ball sitting crisscrossed legs on the floor ( its more of a hand off to the person sitting next to them) then u blow a whistle and whoever has the ball gets up and does a layup on there end of the floor the person that shots first stays in and the other person is out.... last team standing winsemail me for more details and more games

not sure what ages your kids are, but when I coached a 5th grade boys team I use to tie the two in together.Most kids at that age don't bend their knees and get low for defense or rebounding. So I started out introducing them to the wall burner. That's where you get up against a wall went your legs bent in a 90 degree angle and your butt up against the wall with your back out slightly (it's important don't let them rest their back against the wall) It looks like your sitting in an imaginary chair. You want legs shoulder width apart, knees bent at a 90 degree angle, butt pressed up against the wall, back and shoulders off the wall and hands and arms out in front (no hands on the knees for support) Do that drill for 30 seconds to begin and graduate to 45 seconds as their legs get stronger.
That is the basic position for perimeter defense. Its also the position you want to get into for rebounding. Get your legs bent let your butt find a defender and press against them like the wall and drive them back with your arms up and out to keep the opposition from coming around either side of you for better positioning.
2 drills I use to do, to reinforce this one is for defense. Line up your team in rows across one side of half court. You stand in front of them holding a basketball. Everyone gets down in the defensive position. Than you tell them when you blow the whistle the drill starts and whatever side you move the ball to that's the direction they move and they change when you move the ball to the other side.
The next is form two lines underneath the basket. Bring out two players at a time and have them stand underneath the basket. You shoot a free throw (try to miss, but if you make it just shoot it again) Both players need to use their legs and butts to get good rebounding position. One player gets the rebound they go to the back of the line the other player who doesn't get the rebound owes you 10 pushups and steps to the side to do those pushups before returning to the line.
