I have been teaching Language Arts for 7 years and am burnt out! Any good ideas for a career switch? We Answered:
I've had a few career changes, and taking part-time courses helps to make the transition a little easier. It depends on what you like to do and what skills you already have or are willing to get. Sounds like working with youth is not for you right now, but how about working with the elderly? As the majority of our population is aged, there are more jobs available working with the elderly, not only in nursing homes, but also at recreation and leisure centres.
What about journalism, library sciences, or speech and language pathology assistant? What types of jobs do you tell your students they can do when they graduate from your program? Do any of those sound appealing to you?

What is an easy and simple lesson plan for preschoolers learning Language arts content? We Answered:
I have the pre-k class keep a three ring binder as their journal. They are given either a letter, like J and then they are to draw a picture of something that starts with a J. One of my children even drew a journal. Not that the pictures are always a work of great art but then they dictate to me what they have drawn. Other times I might ask them what they like to do in the rain. I always write down what they say and have them help read it back to me.Roy Said:

I need help teaching Language ArtsWe Answered:
"I want her to be above average" but be sure you are encouraging her and not "pushing" her as this may backfire on you if she becomes frustrated. Even though there are milestones in development, try to measure her against her own development rather than comparing her to others. It seems she will get the support from you she needs. Keep in mind that on some days she may be working on physical skills while at other times her brain may soak up number concepts or the english skills you desire. Follow the lead from her teacher about what to reinforce with her.Michelle Said:
What are some new fresh ideas for teaching 6th grade language arts ?We Answered:
The 3 sources listed have some lesson plans, rubrics, handouts, etc.Sixth graders are in a world of their own. They are still creative and enjoy arts and crafts but they also are beginning to get to that age where they want to be treated as an adolescent.
Some quick ideas are:
1) Take a nursery story (like 3 Little Pigs) and have them rewrite a "modern" version.
2) Write a play based on their favorite TV character (a friend did this and ended up with about 20 different Sponge Bob stories)
3) Take a walk outside the school, if allowed, and have them list what they saw. Then upon returning have them write a poem putting everything together.
4) Have them draw a picture and then write a poem or story describing the picture.
5) Take five pieces of different colored paper and fold them in half. Staple the sheets in the center. Have each student write "Personal Dictionary" on the front and decorate the front sheet. Request they write their favorite words on the pages, the definition, and the source.
The list goes on ... Hope this helps ...
