how hard is class="highlight">teaching a 5th 6th combo class in a private school?We Answered:
damn that sux, I know many of my colleagues who got laid off to, we all work in the LAUSDwell it shouldn't be that hard since 6th grade really is a review of 5th grade, and since you're working in a private school you should have a smaller class and well behaved students, but it is hard because once you're done teaching one subject to one grade level you have to move on to the next, I should know, I sue to teach a 4th-5th combo at my school

what is the best way to give homework back in my class="highlight">large class without wasting time?We Answered:
Is there a pigeon-hole system in your place of work? If so, you could put students' work in their pigeon holes, and they could collect it when they are passing.Ryan Said:
In an academic interviiew, How to answer the question of "How to teach in class="highlight">large classes" ?We Answered:
What subject(s) / level(s) / age of students? My general advice in preparing your response:
Look at the theories of constructivism and cooperative learning in building lesson plans and creating some specific examples you can talk about. Take the role of the "guide on the side" rather than the "sage on the stage" as an educator, by devising plans that will more often put students in the role of investigators and active seekers of knowledge. Provide a variety of activities that will speak to the multiple learning styles and skill levels sure to be present among your future students, as well as more than one type of student assessment. Think of ways that technology of various types can be integrated into your teaching and your students' learning.

What activities can I use that teaches SMALL, MEDIUM AND class="highlight">LARGE to a preschool class? We Answered:
* use the theme create a related picture in the three different sizes and have them order them by size. For our snowman theme I used foam cups and taped on a different size snowman per cup...we did seriation up to 5-10 depending on ability, not just small, med, large.* Show the children 3 similar objects but have different sizes. Have the children in a small group go around the room and find 3 objects that would fit in the size categories of small medium and large. Or they can just go choose 3 objects and you can sort them as a group.
* place a small, medium, and large paintbrush at the easel.
* at snack eat seriate small, med, large crackers (graham crackers works well for this activity. Or you can do a trail mix and use a small, med, large spoon in 3 different foods. This can also lead to the conversation that surgary foods like chocolate chips should be eaten in small portions.
* Simon Says- take small, medium, large steps
* mark 3 squares in your hallway...or other large area (or sidewalk chalk outside). Estimate how many children will fit in the smallest one, and so on. Will more or less children fit in the medium one. Then have the children become "sardines" (you can even call the squares sardine cans). This can also be done with manipulatives and different sized shapes.
* you can make 3 different sizes of bean bags and have the kids toss them into three different size baskets or masking taped shapes, etc.
* You can send home a bag and have the children bring back three different size objects and that can lead into a discussion at small group.
The list goes on and on! Good luck.

Would you rather go to college at a small school or a class="highlight">large school? We Answered:
I'm going off to school for the first time this fall. I chose to go to a medium-size university (population 4000). I like the fact that I get smaller classes, as I don't think I would have been able to stay awake in a huge lecture hall. I liked the size of my high school classes very well. I'm not sure if I could have adapted to big classes that are 200+ students large because I already have a hearing problem. Even though it is well corrected with hearing aids, I don't think my corrected hearing is as good as the average person's is. Also, I'll be able to get help from a professor without too much difficulty if I ever need it, since my university is small enough. Due to my hearing problem, I am feeling a little overwhelmed that some of my classes are going to be 50-60 students (after all, I did choose a medium-size university, not a small one), but I am pretty sure that the class sizes will get smaller as I get into upper level classes. I'm not too upset that I don't have a ton of major options. My school still has an accounting program, as well as majors in business administration, economics, and math. Since I want one of those majors, I am perfectly happy with my options. I am at school to learn a lot, not spend the whole time socializing, so I should be fine with the fact that there are not a million activities to do. There are enough to keep me busy when I am not studying at my mid-size university. If it had been up to me, I would have chosen to go to a smaller university (of course I didn't receive enough financial aid at any of the private schools). Since I ultimately received a $7500/year scholarship at my public, in-state, medium-sized university, I was able to afford it better than I would have if I had been going elsewhere. But I think everything will turn out alright, regardless of the size.
