Psychology degree then teaching in Primary School?

We Answered:

Absolutely, the Primary PGCE accepts people with a 2.1 (generally not lower) in Psychology
If you wanted to teach A level pyschology though, that's a different matter - with a Primary PGCE you wouldn't be qualified to teach beyond KS2 - you could either do a 16-19 PGCE (but that limits you) OR get your Primary PGCE then ask around at local night schools how to get enrolled on their books as a teacher - do one by day, and another by night - but not during your NQT year - you'll be exhausted enough!

Primary school teaching advice please?

We Answered:

It's amazing :)

What you teach that child, stays with them for life!
I worked as a primary teacher for two weeks on work experience and I didn't want to leave! The children idolize you, they have no problem with you, they literally love you.

You get to be as childish as they are, it's probably one of the only jobs were you can get payed to play with building blocks and tell people that it is art and design and a vital part of a childs edcuation ;)

It's such a rewarding Job.
I hopefully apply to primary teacher training in September 2010, and i really reallly can't wait. It's so worth it.

Plus, you get the same holidays as the children.
Bonus for if you start a family when your older :)

Good luck with your higher education!

How would you recommend I get in to primary school teaching?

We Answered:

If you contact TDA they should be able to sort it out. As you already have a diploma, I imagine you will only have to take a shorter course.

Teaching in Primary school in Usa?

We Answered:

To teach primary school in America you have to have a BA or a BS in Elementary Education. Secondary won't work because it's too specialized.

BA is Bachelor of Art and BS is Bachelor of Science. Liberal arts schools give BA's in Education rather than BS's.

hey pros to primary teaching. its a really rewarding job and you actually do get to make a difference, you get a different surprise every day, children are so honest its refreshing, you really do learn something new everyday, also it has good work conditions, good hours and good hols (but really you wouldn't want do it just for those reasons)

cons you need the patience of a saint!!, lots more paperwork, redtape etc than there used to be

I've been a primary teacher for seven years, and while I've had tough classes and hard days I absolutely love it. Granted i complain about it sometimes but i wouldn't do anything else. By the way my sister is a primary teacher too.

If you decide to gor for it best of luck. Trust me you'll have up days and down days but you'll love it!
