Is there a downside to receiving a Masters of Arts in Teaching in Secondary Education? We Answered:
I think the MAT is a great option. At my school, that puts you on the better pay scale, and your liberal arts undergraduate degree will give you an interesting perspective as a teacher (that a BSEd grad may not have). Even though I earned a BSEd, I got my job after I earned my Master's degree. So at least here in this city, having a master's is a benefit, not a hinderance to finding work.Vivian Said:
Early Childhood Education degree to Secondary Education teaching? We Answered:
In most states, there is a certificate for elementary school teaching and another for secondary school teaching. In some states there may be a certificate for middle school teaching. Those certificate usually are received along with a BA degree in education with a focus on either elementary or secondary teaching. However in most states, there is a certificate for elementary or secondary teaching that is above and beyond a bachelor's degree in practically any Science, Social Science, or Physical Science area.Of course, that would include a BA in Early Childhood. That certificate can be obtained by taking four to six education courses in a university that is approved by the Department of Education in any particular state. Please check with the nearby university and with the Department of Education in your state. Good luck.

Question about teaching secondary education. Please Help!!!!?We Answered:
Yes, it is worth it. There are pros and cons to any profession and teaching is hard work. Secondary students are hard to teach because of their ages and developmental stages. You've got to deal with adolescent hormones, social issues, etc... the regular stuff teenagers have to deal with BUT you do reach those kids who are interested in what you have to say, come back to visit you, and say "thank you", "you were the one who didn't give up on me", or "you my favorite teacher because you took an interest in me." When you get comments like that, it makes the negatives weigh a little less and you actually feel that you made a difference.
