Should I switch schools?

We Answered:

Hi there Ashley,

I also think that its a good opportunity for you to go to this new school with advanced educational options. It sounds like it would a very good opportunity to advance your educational career and even possibly open new doors for high school and university. Don't be too nervous about your friends. You can still msn them, facebook them, yahoo them and hang with them on the weekends or after school. Deciding not to go to a school cuz of being afraid of loosing your friends is a bad idea. I was nervous the first time i had to do it too, but we kept in touch and still are very good friends. Odds are that this problem will happen to you a few times in your life. Mine happened in high school and when I had to leave for college. Don't worry you'll keep you friends and meet new ones. Good luck and I hope this helps. ^-^

What are the requirments for a teacher to change/add a subject area?

We Answered:

I suggest you check the individual state departments of education for the rules of these states.

In NJ, you need 30 college credits in your subject and passing the high school Praxis in your subject, to teach a subject at the high school level. Those things will automatically qualify you to teach middle school in the same subject. For a second subject at the high school level, you will need another 30 credits and another Praxis. But, check your state.

Does a career in teaching sound like it's right for me?

We Answered:

The fact that you are considering all of these important questions tells me you'll probably be great. If you care enough to go back and finish your degree and get certified at this point you are far more committed than most. You will need to work on empathy for those who struggle, but you're aware of that, so you'll manage it. If you decide to do it, I think you will find it very fulfilling.

Looking for a teen FICTION book- computers or technology?

We Answered:

Ender's Game is really good, I read it when I was about ten myself. It doesn't really deal with computers in today's sense though, the same thing goes for Virtual War, which is another computer-realted futuristic story.
The only other thing I can think of is a book called Head Games. It's is about two kids who become unlikely friends after meeting through an online role-playing game. It's by Mariah Fredericks, and is reccomended for 7th grade and up.

Edit: Oh yeah, there's also another pretty good one called Evil Genius which is about a boy who goes to a school to learn to be a villan. It doesn't totally revolve around computers, but they are pretty important to it. He gets kicked out of school for hacking, and later on at his new "learn to be evil school" it involves an eccentric computer class. The main character also starts up a online "dating site" which he runs and replies to ads himself. It's one of my favorite books.
