ESL TEACHER PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS!!!?

We Answered:

From your question I can see that you are studying to become an ESL teacher. One of the best ways to teach students responsibility is by example. Also, by doing your assignment, you will expand your knowledge and integrate essential teaching concepts. Believe me, you don't want to find yourself in front of a group with no clue as to what to do. You owe your future students your best and your best is being prepared.

How can I prepare for my first ballet teaching job?

We Answered:

Your local library may have some ballet books, I would suggest searching there online (and any in close by cities) for terminology. But here is a online version of a ballet dictionary book (which I have, but the actual book is VERY technical)

http://www.abt.org/education/dictionary/…

As far as music, if you don't have actual ballet class music, then the Disney songs could work (or classical music). Just make sure you listen to each song and find one that's appropriate for whatever exercise you're doing (be prepared, write down the track numbers so you're not fiddling around in class). Modern music that's clean is ok too, unless they are signing up for a strictly classical ballet class, then I'd recommend buying a music for ballet class cd.

Exercises to teach (this is just my opinion of what I would teach 7- 10 yr olds, I teach 3 -5 and ocassionally the adult classes):

At the barre,
plies*
tendus*
degages (although I had a teacher who called them jetes at the barre too...)
rond de jambe*
frappes
barre stretch*
grand battements*

In the Center,
port de bras*
simple tendu combo* (can same combo with degage too)
simple adage
jumps*
assemble
pas de chat*

Across the floor,
piques (no turning until they're ready)
chaines*
waltz runs*
saute arabesque*
grand jetes*
(if wanted, simple allegro)

Of course, this is probably an hour and a half worths of class, if you have only one hour stick with what's astericked. And doubly of course, this is your class so you should run it as you see fit, these are only my suggestions, but definitely write down the exercises and track number before your first day, it'll make it easier than fumbling around.

If it's the first time these children have experienced ballet, then be patient and realize that you may not get to every exercise, and that it's ok if they're not doing it perfectly and you need to move on. Above all, have fun! The games may be too young for them but you can definitely use imagery (~I'm currently teaching my babies to lift their leg a little when they do arabesque in the center; I say "pretend there's an ant that wants to walk under your foot, you wouldn't want to squish him do you? it gets their leg up just a little so they can feel the engagement in their back and glut, but not so much that it ruins their form. Just an example though, remember I teach 3 - 5yrs, lol)

Good luck, have fun!

How hard is it to teach yourself to play the violin?

We Answered:

Of course you can "teach yourself," if you mean that in the context of not hiring another person to teach you.

You can't just create hundreds of years of pedagogy out of thin air though. My suggestion to you would be to buy a book on string pedagogy (there are plenty), and since you have a musical background, not a beginning one. Make sure you choose a book which has photographs of hand position and bow technique, etc, and follow it closely.

You can do it, but it WILL take patience and a lot of attention to detail, as you probably know from playing the piano.

LTCL Diploma TESOL Course - Would It Help Me?

We Answered:

Unless you're going to be the main/only teacher I think a management training course would be of more benefit. you refer to having "various TESOL certificates collected over the years" which implies that you have not only been extensively trained in this area but also had considerable teaching experience, if you don't know the grammar and the ins and outs of skills teaching by now, you probably never will. As an owner you will have to organise other staff, budget, promote, advertise etc etc. Look at improving those skills and employ teachers who can teach - by all means make a diploma a condition of employment, it's a valid course.

What is the best technique used to remembering misc things?

We Answered:

The best thing is note it down on your diary if it is to be remembered. If it is a reminder of your work after completing your work put a tick mark on it with the reference what action you have taken on it. Revise very often when ever you feel free to update and finish your pending works. This is how I survive. I will forget what I ate in the morning. But I am 62 years old still I remember Newtons law and Pythagoras theorem. It is all the matter of our interest.
