What do I need to teach technology at a high school or technical institution? We Answered:
It may be easier to find an after school enrichment program that allows you to teach without a credential or permit. If you are headset onto becoming a public school teacher
Please contact your state's department of education
This process will take about a year at the least.
Some states require that you go back to college to get your major in Education.........check out state requirements...I could be wrong.
You may be required by the university to do a internship
(my art teaching internship was 6 months long, unpaid, 7am-5pm M-F)
After your classes are completed, you will take two tests
a Basic Skills Test (usually Math, Writing, etc.)
and your area of specialization
These test will be given through the state. They are only given on certain dates of the year....each costs around $100.
Months later you will be given a permit or credential....it must be updated every so often.
Schools generally hire mostly around early spring. Each state has their own website for posting positions they are looking for.
Make sure to have a portfolio of your teaching experiences or working in your field.
Good luck!
